In relation to my last post I just hate this idea still that... you can change almost everything about a character and it's still the same character, and then people still expect me to be grateful and really excited about it. Why am I going to be grateful or excited about a character who is absolutely nothing like the character I love? Where everything from the setting to their job to their name has been changed? (And this in addition to elements which I do not just dislike like say the entire character they also make me deeply, profoundly uncomfortable and are actively triggering even but it's one of those things where everyone seems to think again I'm supposed to be thrilled by it because it's ~diverse~)

Also sorry but fuck this idea that everything Sherlock Holmes has got to have a Moriarty. Even though much of the time this means changing practically every single thing about him and it's a totally original character. Just call them an original name? If you're going to make them an original character why do you have to to make some vague attempt at claiming it's still Moriarty when it's not? I'm so sick of this shit showing up in my searches or tags or whatever, things about entire other characters just with the name Moriarty tacked on. It was bad enough when it was just 'Jim' and stuff about him had taken over the entire concept of Moriarty (which does still happen, and I hate that too), but there are also entire series of books about this sort of shit where every single thing has been changed except they've got a few of the canonical names tacked onto them. It's just people trying to cash in by using someone else's characters' names, that's all it is. The world isn't going to end if you call an original character an original name and don't try to make out it's Moriarty still?
