Oh OK so Ukraine came 6th in Eurovision, congrats to them for beating the UK entry by a mile (LMAO, second to last). I haven't heard any of the others from this year beyond about 10 seconds of the UK one which really did not inspire me to listen to the rest of it (though I hated the UK entry last year too and that came second so what do I know about popular music) so whether I'd like any of the others or not who knows. (ETA: oh hey Pasha Parfeni was in it, I do know him already, I'm gonna go listen to that one) 

Good luck to Ukraine now in kicking out Putin's cannon fodder.

Do you know what else I can refer to in this essay, the Corpus Clock Chronophage. I've never seen it in reality but I am slightly obsessed with that beasty (and this definitely connects in with the use of clocks in A Game of Shadows, the use of clocks and time linking to death in that film must be deliberate, as I'm sure the chess game is a deliberate shout out to the playing chess with Death thing in The Seventh Seal and the original picture that was based on. I have issues with those films sure not enough Moriarty and Moran for one but I think they're also much cleverer than a lot of people give them credit for and I do think they really played with a lot of the more symbolic stuff with Moriarty in particular in a way few adaptations ever have. Like immersing Moriarty in dark shadows, strange imagery maybe but I think it's fantastic symbolism; like the black horses; like the chess and time and tarot stuff).
