It sure would be nice to be able to find somewhere online where people actually interact with you about stuff you care about. That definitely isn't here, practically nobody even uses this site. It is not tumblr because barely anybody on there gives a shit about anything I care about so I constantly ended up talking to myself on there too just the same as I do on a site like this which is basically dead - like the only Jared Harris stuff anyone there cares about is The Terror or Chernobyl (sorry but I am not touching either of those not even with a 50 foot pole, I do not see in the slightest what is entertaining about things where everyone suffers and in most cases dies horribly and to make it even worse they're at least partially true stories), the only Paul Anderson thing anyone cares about is fucking Peaky Blinders, the only Sherlock Holmes thing they care about is Holmes/Watson except for the few people who actually do like Moriarty/Moran but pretty much all they really care about and talk about still is just the BBC Sherlock version which sorry but they are not remotely the same characters or relationship (meanwhile the fandom overall still loves to shit on any character and pairing I care about). The only Midsomer Murders stuff anyone seems to talk about is Dan Scott (who I possibly like even less than Troy, and I don't really like Troy), Jamie Winter (Jamie's all right but I have no interest in him beyond watching the actual episodes and the relationship between him and John which is basically like a father and son relationship is not the type of relationship I have any interest in) or how Tom is amazing and wonderful but John is rubbish.
And places like AO3, they're fine as what they are, as an archive, but they're not the place to get any real interaction with other fans of whatever.
And even other stuff, my other hobbies and stuff, all anyone cares about there is doing everything through facebook - everything is done through fucking facebook now or maybe through instagram, so I miss everything everyone posts, I don't get to enter any of the competitions, I miss all the secondhand sales, and I'm sick of it ending up where if you don't use facebook or instagram (and refuse to use them because they are bloody awful sites, also as far as I can tell instagram is really only designed for smartphones. I do not have a smartphone, I do not want a smartphone) you've just excluded and left out of everything and it's really sucked most of the fun out of these hobbies.
It really has ended up where 'social media' has made a lot of us even more alienated and isolated and excluded than we were before all of that was ever a thing. I hate this.
